The Opinel 8 for mushrooms in a blister pack is a folding knife for mushroom pickers with a curved stainless steel blade, Virobloc safety catch and cleaning brush.
The knife has an 80 mm long blade made of stainless steel, which requires no special maintenance, stays sharp for a long time and is easy to sharpen. The blade can be opened with two hands using the fingernail cutout.
Like most mushroom knives, this model also has a curved claw-like blade that allows you to cut the mushroom precisely without damaging the ground. The back of the blade is serrated, providing a stable support point for the finger when cutting. According to mushroom picking enthusiasts, when cutting mushrooms, the lower part of the mushroom stem is left behind, which rots in the litter, fertilizing it and helping to form mycelium.
The handle is made of French beech wood with a colorless varnish coating to protect it from dirt and moisture. The handle has a traditional oval profile that widens at the end, making the knife comfortable and secure to hold. A boar bristle brush is attached to the back of the handle for cleaning mushrooms.
The knife is equipped with the Virobloc safety ring, designed by Marcel Opinel in 1955. Virobloc has a steel structure and consists of two parts: a fixed (inner) part and a movable part that locks the blade in the open and closed position. The mechanism is easy to use, durable and reliable, which is why Opinel has been using it almost unchanged for over 65 years.
